Clinical research is the best way to improve our knowledge of diseases, and develop new treatments and technology to ensure better patient care.
As Canada's largest research hospital, we have countless ongoing studies, and even more in the future - meaning several opportunities for anyone interested in getting involved in clinical research at SickKids. You can be a research participant in a study, you can help advise on research studies, or you could become a member of our Research Family Advisory Committee!

If you’re a patient or a parent of a child receiving care at SickKids, you have the opportunity to participate in a research study! You can also talk to your clinical team about research studies in their area and whether there are opportunities appropriate for your child.

...a Research Family Advisor
Research Family Advisors are patients and family members who volunteer their time to enhance patient-oriented research at SickKids. By becoming a member of a research study team, you bring a unique, important patient and family perspective to the research process. We’ll rely on you to provide input and participate in decision-making throughout the research process, from planning to execution and interpretation.

...a member of the Research Family Advisory Committee (RFAC)
The RFAC is a committee made up of patients, family members, researchers, and clinicians who volunteer their time to enhance patient-oriented research at SickKids.
The RFAC meets monthly and provides advice on a wide range of research issues, such as identification of research priorities, reviews of patient facing documentation, input on child and family centeredness of proposals, developing research methodologies and reviews of research findings and knowledge translation materials.
